La fantascienza italiana non sta vivendo un momento felicissimo affogata tra le polemiche, ma per fortuna c'è chi lavora per tenere alta la bandiera. E negli ultimi anni se c'è una persona che ha portato lustro all'Italia, nel campo della fantascienza, questo è Maurizio Manzieri, il grande illustratore che ora aggiunge al suo palmarès un nuovo traguardo: ottava nomination al più prestigioso premio per artisti fantastici, il premio Chesley.

Per dare un'idea, otto nomination vuol dire raggiungere artisti del calibro di Stephan Martiniere o di Alan Lee; entrambi però hanno vinto il premio due volt. Manzieri solo una, alla sua prima nomination nel 2006. Potrebbe essere la volta buona anche sotto questo punto di vista?

La copertina di Manzieri è stata pubblicata sul numero di ottobre 2015 della Asimov's, e illustrava un romanzo breve di Aliette de Bodard, The Citadel of Weeping Pearls.

L'illustrazione ha già vinto il premio dei lettori della rivista come miglior copertina dell'annata.
