Niente male questa tornata di Academy Award per il mondo del fantastico. In particolare per il genere horror che viene premiato con quattro Oscar per Sinners (I peccatori), uno per Weapons e tre per Frankenstein, anche se questi ultimi possiamo contarli anche nel paniere della fantascienza. Che si aggiudica anche il solito premio agli effetti visivi con Avatar Fuoco e cenere. Due oscar anche al film animato KPop Demon Hunters, miglior animazione e canzone originale.

Non c'è stato un film che abbia dominato nettamente; il film che ha vinto di più è stato, con sei statuette tra le quali miglior film e miglior regia, Una battaglia dopo l'altra diretto da Paul Thomas Anderson (da non confondere con Paul W.S. Anderson, regista noto per varie serie di fantascienza).
